Finance Council

The Archbishop heads the diocese and appoints a priest as pastor to serve and manage each parish community on his behalf. The pastor is ultimately responsible for all parish finances. Church Law ( Canon 1280 of the 1983 Code of Canon Law ) and diocesan norms recognize the tremendous responsibility given to pastors in the realm of parish finances. Accordingly, every parish is required to have a parish finance council. The pastor is responsible for assembling the parish finance council. The parish finance council is an advisory body whose membership should include individuals skilled in finance, civil law, construction/engineering or business.

Every parish finance council must have at least three members. The parish finance council will:

  1. Develop a long-range financial plan for funding operational and capital needs in the parish.
  2. Develop and oversee the process for determining and approving an annual parish budget.
  3. Provide analysis of current financial reports.
  4. Provide fiscal analysis for proposed goals, strategies and programs.

The parish finance council will meet at least four times a year. At every meeting, the parish finance council will review and analyze the financial activities of the parish, monitor compliance with the annual parish budget, review quarterly financial reports, and review the financial impact of the mission and ministry of the parish as established by the pastor.

Stewardship

“For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.”

Stewardship can be defined as a spiritual consciousness or lifestyle based on the understanding that all that we have and all that we are comes from God’s abundant grace. Stewardship is a way of life, a partnership with God that calls each of us as baptized Christians to share in the responsibility of caring for God’s creation. As a people of faith and disciples of the Gospel message, we are called to serve others by sharing our gifts of time, talent and treasure. With grateful hearts and true humility, stewardship enables us to move forward in our own faith as part of a worshipping community.

Corporate Matching Gifts

Many corporations or businesses have established matching gift programs to support the philanthropy of their employees. Often the works of churches and education programs are eligible for support. Most employers with matching gift programs have forms that must first be completed by the employee and then forwarded to the charity.
